Welcome to the Happy Yellow House!  Thanks for stopping by to learn a little bit about us.  I'm C.L. Halvorson and I live in Texas with my husband, Big Daddy, and our precious little cats, Misa and Tuon.  A few years ago Big Daddy and I bought a new house.  It's a fabulous 1925 Craftsman bungalow painted a happy shade of yellow.  That's where I came up with the idea for the name of my website.

When I first started this site on December 18, 2006 (yeah, I know not that long ago) I didn't know what I wanted to do with it.  Well, it kinda morphed itself into a crochet site for the most part.  The patterns section took off like a rocket so I decided to focus there, since crochet is my first love (other than Big Daddy, of course) anyway.

I love designing and sharing what I come up with.  I used to sell my patterns, but that was way too much stress.  I'm having much more fun just giving them away for free!  I intend to do my best to keep the patterns realistic as well.  There are a lot of great designs out there in the marketplace and on the Web that use expensive yarns.  Those are great, don't get me wrong, I love those, too.  I've even stitched up some of them.  But I want to keep things simple for everyday stitching.

I've lived in areas where the only available source for yarn is the local dime store or WalMart if we were lucky enough to have one.  And I've lived on very little cash in the past.  We all go through that at some time.  Sometimes we go back to it with little warning as well. Therefore, I focus on projects that use easy to find and relatively inexpensive materials to produce great results.  Sure hope y'all enjoy them!

The "real" Happy Yellow House.  It'll look much better once we get the landscaping done!

The poor thing was such a mess when we bought it.  It was covered in green asbestos shingles (talk about a nightmare to have those removed).  It's porch was literally broken into three huge pieces and it was all overgrown with weeds and wild bushes.  The hardwood floors had been so neglected they were black!  The plaster was torn off the walls in about half the house.  Why buy this monster, you ask?  Well, Mama and Big Daddy could see her potential.  We knew there was a beautiful house under all that mess.  She was in excellent shape structurally so we took a chance.  Now she's well on her way to becoming a showplace!  In fact, we get no less than two offers per month to buy her!  But she's not for sale at any price. She's our Happy Yellow House now!
