Designer Linda Twentyman shares her pattern for the amazing Stacked Cubes quilt! We hope this is just the first of many of her wonderful design that we bring you!

ABBREVIATIONS

beg - beginning
ch - chain
sl st - slip stitch
sp - space
dc - double crochet
sc - single crochet
hdc - half double crochet
BLO - Back Loop Only

NOTE: This afghan is worked using worsted weight yarn in the colors specified with each project. It is made up of two different types of granny squares: a solid color granny and a bi-color granny. General directions for each are as follows below. Simply crochet the number of squares needed for each block in the color required then assemble as described in instructions.

SOLID COLOR GRANNY

Finished square measures approximately 2 1/2”

Ch 4, join with a sl st to first chain to form a ring

RND 1: Ch 3, 2 dc in ring, ch 1, (3 dc in ring, ch 1) three times, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3.

RND 2: Ch 3, turn, 2 dc in first ch 1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in same ch 1 sp, ch 1 (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1) in remaining 3 ch 1 sps, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3, finish off, weave in loose ends

BI-COLOR GRANNY

Finished square measures approximately 2 1/2”

Ch 4, with main color, join with a sl st to first chain to form a ring

RND 1: Ch 3, 2 dc in ring, ch 1, 3 dc in ring, drop main color but DO NOT cut, pickup second color, YO draw through loop on hook, 3 dc in ring, ch 1, 3 dc in ring, ch 1 , join with sl st to top of beg ch 3

RND 2: Turn, sl st in first ch 1 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same ch 1 sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, drop second color, pick up main color again, YO draw through loop on hook, 3 dc in same ch 1 sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in last ch 1 sp, ch 1, join with sl st to top of beg ch 3, finish off, weave in loose ends

Using tapestry needle and appropriate color yarn and stitching through BLO, assemble each individual block using the diagram below for placement. :

RND 1: With Light Gray yarn join with a sl st to any corner ch 1 sp, ch 2, hdc around working 3 hdcs in the corners, ch 2, turn

RND 2: Dc in each hdc around, working 5 dc in corner hdcs, ch 2, turn

RND 3: Hdc in each dc around, working 3 hdc in corner dcs, ch 2, turn

RND 4: Dc in each hdc around, working 5 dc in corner hdcs, ch 2, turn

RND 5: Hdc in each dc around, working 3 hdc in corner dcs, switch to Gold, ch 2, turn

RND 6: With Gold yarn dc in each hdc around, working 5 dc in corner hdcs, ch 2, turn

RND 7: Hdc in each dc around, working 3 hdc in corner dcs, switch to Real Teal, ch 2, turn

RND 8: With Real Teal yarn dc in each hdc around, working 5 dc in corner hdcs, ch 2, turn
